Zoa Peak – 2022/06/25

June 25th 2022

Description

Zoa Peak is a small mountain adjacent to Highway 5 at the Coquihalla Summit area. Given the cool weather lately, this will be a good one for easing into the remaining alpine snow of the high Cascades. We will assess conditions upon arrival.

Though this is a modest peak, experience with summiting mountains and route finding is essential here. Long pants and gators are preferable in case the route is still wet. It’s forecast to be hot but winter layers should be packed in case of weather changes; all that  sunshine on wet mountains may kick up some isolated weather activity at altitude.

The route is just over 9 km return but if time and energy levels permit, further ridge-walking toward Zopkio Peak may be possible. This is only an option if people are experienced and feeling confident in pushing onward. This option will involve bushwhacking.

I have an InReach that I will be bringing.
