Winter fitness training at Grouse Mountain

December 7th 2022

Description

Get winter ready… we will hike the Larson trail to the top of Grouse and loop around the bear den back to lodge.  Plan is to download on the gondola (tickets $20).  Option to hike down only IF you have a second person to hike down with you.

Be prepared for snow from the parking lot.  It is unlikely that we will need snowshoes, but you can carry them for weight training 🙂  You absolutely will need a headlamp and spare batteries, winter gloves and hat etc.

Bring: snowshoes, microspikes, poles, emergency kit, headlamp and spare batteries, winter puffer, appropriate clothing and a rain shell.  Expect it to be snowing / raining and below zero temperatures.  10 Essentials mandatory for all participants.  Please ask me if you’re not sure what they are or if you have the right gear.

Pace will be moderate+, expect the hike to take around 2 hours not including download from the lodge.  This is a steep, rugged uphill trail.  It is longer and less maintained than the BCMC for reference.  You will need a good level of fitness to complete this hike.  Fit beginners are also welcome to join.

Plan to leave downtown 4pm which should have us starting the trail hopefully 4.45pm.  Can be discussed in planning forum and adjusted somewhat to suit the group.

I have also posted this trip with BCMC.
