Description
Come join me on a hopefully happy hike to Sad Peak.
Sad Peak is way at the end of the long (10km ish) SE ridge of Silent Hub. According to Bivouac’s name notes, this “peak is not much visited, and thus sad.” Let’s pay it a visit!
Plan is to hike in on Saturday and camp up past Hidden (Pushki) Lake, ramble along the ridge to Cog Peak then over to Sad, then hike out, retunring late on Monday. Each day, I figure about 7 hrs of hiking, 10km distance and 1000m elevation.
There will be a lot of steep sidehilling, boulderhopping and minor scrambling, but nothing technical. If there are surprises past Cog, we’ll make a group decision on whether or not to continue. Emphasis will be on safety and fun, summiting is a lower priority.
The pace will be at the faster end of moderate, with some short stops for breathers and meadow/mountain admiring but pretty steady.
This is a rain or shine hike, so please sign up only if you are 100% committed.
Another driver would be needed to bring max trip participants. Its highway driving to Duffey Lake, then 6kms of 2WD along the Van Horlick Road.
Potential participants must email me directly at [email protected]. Please tell me a comparable trip you’ve done recently. Also, let me know if you are a passenger and what neighbourhood you’re in. If you’re a driver, how many you could take and what neighbourhood you’re in. If we can easily coordinate pick ups, we will, otherwise we will be meeting to carpool at 8am in the parking lot on the east side of Waterfront Station.
