Description
The Last Social of the Year! A Presentation Not to Be Missed!
Join us for an evening with Dr. Michele Koppes, as she shares her research on the impacts of climate change on landscapes, waterscapes, and communities across the Coast Mountains of BC and Alaska, Patagonia, and the Nepalese and Indian Himalayas.
Michele Koppes is a Professor in UBC’s Department of Geography and directs the Landscapes of Climate Change Lab. Her passion is reading and listening to glaciers to decipher their stories and the human and more-than-human entanglements that shape them. Her research seeks to understand how climate change impacts landscapes, waterscapes and people, asking not only how mountains respond to climate change, but how the people who live in them perceive and adapt to it.
In this presentation she will share insights from some of her collaborations documenting the cascading effects of climate change on natural hazards, water resources and mountain cultures, working in and with communities in BC, Alaska, Patagonia, and the Himalayas.
