Description
Departing North Vancouver Thursday July 25 for Pemberton from St David’s church, 530 am and return Saturday evening. The trail head (TH)is a 3 hour drive from North Vancouver. There are mix reports as to whether a 2WD can make it. If the road is not passable, we would have to add 5 km walk to the TH.
The plan is to hike to the Brian Wadding hut which is 10 km from the TH and 1, 000 meter elevation gain. Once at the hut, there are various peaks, which involves some class 3 scrambling and route finding. Summits wears name such as Frodo, Aaragorn, Gandalf and Shadow fax. I have read that there can be slippery section as well. Please bring proper foot wear, poles and helmet. Bugs can be annoying around the hut, however no issues, once higher up. The views are apparently incredible :)!
On day 1 , once we have reached the hut, we have multiple options such as hanging out, eat, swim and /or continuing on to Mont Frodo with day packs. Mount Frodo is ~6km and 500 meters elevation gain from the hut.
Day 2 : Gandalf and Aaragorn loop: 8km, with 820 meters of elevation gain.
Day 3 :Shadow Fax ~3 km and 550 meters of elevation gain , has more scrambling and exposure. Open to other options as well
The above plan is flexible and weather dependent. I can drive all participants ( 4 including myself). I drive a 2WD. If you have higher clearance vehicle , that would be great. I will create a group on “Whats app” so that we cane finalize arrangements. The only cost would be gas share as usual and the hut Fee is 10$/night pp, per night. Please bring cash for the hut fee.
Bring all you need for a backpacking trip including 10 essentials, bug and bear spray, face net, poles, helmet. The hut does not have foam, pots or pans .
If we have not done a trip together before, please tell me about your most recent scrambling experience.
