Travel in the Backcountry

This ski-touring event is for experienced, intermediate and better backcountry skiers who have AST 1 or equivalent experience.  All participants required to bring, AVI kit (transceiver, probe & shovel) & crevasse rescue kit: (harness, prusiks, 2 locking carabiners), and expected to be familiar with their deployment and use.  Parties venturing out on the slopes must consist of at least 3 people properly equipped, prepared for the terrain & weather conditions, and leave a detailed trip plan in the hut before leaving

Cooking and Meals

Participants are responsible for their own breakfast, lunch, snacks and libations.

To minimize congestion and demand on limited kitchen amenities in tight cooking quarters for evening meal  participants will be organized into smaller numbers of cooking groups that will coordinate and share organizing, purchase and preparation of their dinners,  (ideally 5 parties of 2 would each be responsible for and prepare only a single dinner for 10 people).

Flights In & out

Black Tusk Helicopters allows about 45 lbs of baggage per person….this includes, not only ski’s boots, poles & related gear but also food, sleeping and all other gear.

If on average our group of 10 averages about that amount of baggage weight per person we might make it into the hut in 2 flights of their 5 passenger A Star.  If we exceed that amount a third flight could be necessary.

Flight Costs are estimated to be approximately   $ 430 per person

Carpooling

For those coming from the Greater Vancouver area carpooling may be arranged at a mutually convenient location such as St Davids’ Church @ Upper Levels Highway & Taylor Way enroute to the Black Tusk Terminal @ Squamish Airport.

Waiting List members invited to participate, will need to transfer $ 630 payment before being promoted to Trip Participant,  Excess of payments over trip costs will be refunded after all trip bills are paid.

If in the event of an emergency a Trip Participant needs to cancel and an acceptable replacement from the trip wait list can be identified and accepts a substitution may be possible.

Please review the Haberl Hut Page on the ACC Vancouver website for additional information.
