Description
Was up here a few months ago, ended up
bushwacking through heavy snow and a whiteout.
Hoping for views this time!
There’s a bit of uphill logging road walking,
then the trail starts out fairly level to McKay
lake before climbing steeply up the col between
St Benedict and McKay to the summit which has
tremendous views of Judge Howay and Robbie
Reid.
If the group is willing, we could bushwack over
to the forested McKay Peak just for fun on the
way down. Expect snow past the lake.
15km round-trip, 1050m elevation gain, about 7
hours of hiking. Plan is to leave downtown
Vancouver by 8:30am, with potential carpooling
stops along the way (eg Rupert Station, Mary
Hill
bypass), then hike up usual trail.
People interested in talking about overnight
winter trips are especially welcome!
