Skyline Divide, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest

November 5th 2019

Description

Given good weather, will leave Abbotsford at
8:00 AM, cross border and drive past Glacier WA
then take the Deadhorse Road to trail head –
Approximately 65 km (1 hr. & 45 min. driving
time). Road is reported to be snow covered and
icy after 8km.
Trail starts at 1,300 m (4,300’) and climbs 460
m (1,599’) in 3.5 km to the ridge at 1,750 m.
From here there are panoramic, views of Mt.
Shuksan, Mt. Baker and north north-westerly
views of the Cheam Range (Lucky Four group) as
well as the Illusion and Rexford Groups.
The trail then continues West rolling up
and down over high knolls to a Junction at 5km.
From this junction the trail turns right and
climbs steeply towards Chowder Ridge and a flat
knoll-shoulder at 6 km. We may stop at this
point given weather and group preference.
The trail then continues along the ridge
another 1.5 km to the highest point at 2,000 m.
Plan to return to trail head by 4:00 PM if
we go to the highest point, 3:15 if we turn
around at Chowder Ridge.
Total hike is 15 km (9.5 miles) round trip with
700 m (2,260’) of elevation gain.
Post hike options may include a stop at
Grahams in Glacier.
Other post hike options include stopping at
North Fork Brewery in Deming or going directly
back to Abbotsford.
