Handheld Radios

The club owns two VHF Radios with DMR Technology that are GPS enabled.  These devices are recommended for ski touring groups, expedition mountaineering trips, or in very large groups where communication is essential but difficult.  Under certain circumstances these radios can be used to contact out help in the event of an emergency but that is not their primary purpose.  The radios come programmed with many useful channels for group talk and for emergencies, self programming of frequencies is not allowed.  Use of these radios is for trip organizers who have been approved for their usage and taught the guidelines for proper VHF radio use.

We also own 4 BCA Link radios which can be rented out for ski touring or alpine climbing groups.  These radios do not require any special training on their usage and are excellent for ski touring in the trees.   These radios cannot be used to contact outside help at long ranges.
