Tricouni Peak via the Scrambling Route

    That doesn't mean that you are confirmed to go on the trip yet. If you are accepted, you should receive an email from the coordinator to confirm your sign-up and coordinate the trip's details.

Description

The plan is to scramble Tricouni Peak as described in Matt Gunn’s guidebook. Because of its having been planned at the last minute, this trip will be restricted to recent graduates of the BMC. Details TBD amongst participants on WhatsApp.

The itinerary:

  • Leave Vancouver at 6:00 AM so as to reach the trailhead at ~8:00 AM
  • Latest turnaround time: 2:00 PM
  • Back at the car by 6:00 PM
  • Back in Vancouver by ~8:30 (depending on traffic)
  • Sunset at ~9:20 PM, giving us plenty of buffer time

Required experience:

  • Recent completion of the Basic Mountaineering Course

Required technical gear:

  • A harness (in case we need to protect anything)
  • A helmet
  • Boots
  • Crampons
  • An ice axe

I will bring a half-rope, snow pickets, and a few slings and locking carabiners (plus my belay device).

Hazards:

  • unprotected falls on snow and rock (to be assessed in person)
  • human-generated rockfall on the scramble to the summit (to be mitigated by sheltering in a secure spot when others are climbing)
