Description

3 Day, 2 night traverse through the Spearhead range starting at Blackcomb and finishing by skiing out Whistler. This is an area classic.

Due to the amount of long ski traverses, this trip is not ideal for boarders but it can work for skilled riders.

This trip will be cancelled or postponed if the avalanche danger is considerable or higher. The alternate dates are March 11th to 13th.

The objective is the core traverse. There are opportunities for some side trips for a motivated and fit group (skiing Cheakamus at the back-end of the range is high on my list).

-AST1

-Crevasse rescue training (dry land OK)

-Able to rappel

-“Intermediate or better” touring experience

-Adequate fitness for 34km and 2500vm of travel over 3 days with a multi day pack.

-Ability to ski Black runs off-piste in any conditions with a pack

-Winter Camping experience is an asset but not required

 

Due to Covid, be prepared to drive solo and sleep in your own tent (which adds weight and makes for colder nights).

 

There are costs for this trip including, parking at Whistler, a BC lift ticket, and a BC Parks permit.
