Skills Practice: Rappelling

Doing any climbing this summer? Spend a few hours brushing up on rappelling skills.

*** This is not a training session; this is an opportunity to refresh existing knowledge and practice with like-minded others. This does not replace qualified instruction***

We will meet at the top of “God’s Chair” at Greenwood Park in North Vancouver

Parking is on E 22nd St – be respectful of the neighborhood.

 

Required equipment:

  • Climbing harness
  • Helmet
  • Belay device
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Rappelling kit: belay device (tube-style preferred), prussik or other third-hand device, extension sling (single- or double-sling)
  • Rope (if you are able to bring)

Optional equipment:

  • Anchor material (webbing, cord, etc.)
  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Rappel gloves

Required Experience:
Already have had training in rappelling techniques. This is practice and refresher, not instructional.

Possible Hazards:
We will be working at cliff’s edge using anchors built off of trees as well as using bolts. Slips and falls with serious consequences are possible.

Weather:
We will not be conducting this practice in the rain. If there is likely to be rain on the day, a decision to cancel will be made the day before. An email will go out to all participants.
