Description
About the organizers: Valentina and I have recently completed the Basic Mountaineering course with ACC and this will be our first mountaineering experience outside the class. Valentina has experience in lead sport and trad climbing. This will be her first time in the North Cascades as an organizer. I have hiked to Hannegan peak (near Ruth mountain )and have organized hiking and backpacking trips with the BCMC.
The route to Ruth mountain is about 20km round trip with 1400meters elevation gain. It involves steep snow hiking, side hilling and glacier travel. The hike starts at Hannegan pass trailhead. We anticipate a chill pace, making 8-10 hours of moving time.
The Trail Head is 2.5 hour drive from Vancouver and we can organize carpooling. If you prefer taking your car, we would still like to meet up before crossing the border. Meeting location will be Chevron gas station at 3030 Boundary Road.
We are planning for this to be a one day trip either Saturday or Sunday, depending on weather. We will keep monitoring the forecast and make a final decision on Friday morning. So far, Saturday looks like the better day.
For whom: Anyone with the appropriate skills but priority will be given to BMC 2024 participants.
