Powder Chasing – Flexible Destination

Description

Posting a trip for Sunday as there is anticipated to be a large weather system moving through southwestern BC on Saturday afternoon to evening, it could bring up to 55cm of snow to some zones.  This trip will be cancelled if the currently in effect SPAW is extended into the weekend or if the avalanche risk rating for Sunday is High at treeline and above.  

Possible destinations are:

  • Mt Baker slackcountry
  • Coquihalla Summit Area
  • Squamish Gondola / Stadium Glacier
  • Whistler Musical Bumps (only if i get word of the alpine lifts opening)

Participant Requirements:

  • Formal avalanche safety training (AST1/2,OPS1, AIRIRE1)
  • Strong fitness for 800-1000m vert skiing in difficult conditions
  • Advanced to Expert skiing ability.  Safely be able to ski down steep backcountry lines without falling or double-black diamond resort skier)

Required Equipment

  • Avalanche safety kit
  • first aid kit
  • personal food and water
  • ski touring or splitboarding kit
  • repair kit
  • headlamp
  • emergency SOS device(not required but recommended) and emergency blanket
  • eye protection
  • helmet (strongly recommended but not required)
