Please join us on February 25th for our monthly social! This month, we’re featuring two incredible presentations by Noah MacDonald (UBC VOC) and Marcus Tomlinson (ACC Vancouver member).

‘The Waiting Game: Mt Robson (The Kain Face) & Mt Temple (The North Face)’

Noah MacDonald will share his 2024 adventures skiing the Kain Face of Mt. Robson and climbing the North Face of Mt. Temple (Greenwood-Jones, V, TD, 5.10). Despite challenges including avalanches, rockfall, and thunderstorms, Noah succeeded on both objectives. His presentation will blend entertaining stories with valuable lessons learned from these expeditions.

Noah Macdonald is a law student at UBC and has been a member of the Varsity Outdoor Club for the past seven years (though he has been climbing & skiing since he was a small child). His mountain sports of choice are alpine climbing and ski mountaineering. Noah feels more at home on Yamnuska limestone than Squamish granite, which tells you all you need to know about his preferred style of climbing.

‘McBride Traverse – Venturing into the Heart of Garibaldi Park’

Marcus will guide us through his epic 95km McBride traverse, completed in 7 days and 6 nights. The journey took him from Whistler Village through the headwaters of the Cheakamus River and over the Garibaldi Neve.

Marcus Tomlinson has been skiing for more than 30 years and started ski touring and climbing in 2012. Marcus has led trips for the ACC since 2016 and enjoys spending time with friends in the mountains.

Mania in the 1930s(Ronsdale Press, 2025), which explores the early attempts to climb B.C.’s Mount Waddington.
