Monthly Social, “Movie Night and Popcorn at the Floral Hall”

April 23rd 2024

Join us on Tuesday, April 23, for a relaxed evening of film and popcorn! The films being picked include inspiring contemporary shorts about climbing as well as a charming older film about the fundamentals of mountaineering. What these films have in common is that they are either filmed in the Rockies/ Coast-range or feature known mountaineers from around British Columbia and/or the ACC. These include:

Leanne Allison’s Losing Blue – built on the research of a pair of limnologists who discovered glacial lakes in the Canadian Rockies are losing a spectacular blue colour that’s been around for millennia;

Seth Gillis’ Slides on the Mountain – two young brothers from the Lil’wat Nation set out to ski the sacred mountain they were raised beneatH – Ts’zil, also known as Mount Currie  (This film is JUST ADDED! Courtesy of VIMFF);

Jen Randall’s Passing It On – featuring local climbing legend Tami Knight, where she talks about her time climbing around Squamish in the 1980s and the start of her iconic comic strips;

Walford Hewitson’s How to Climb a  Mountain – where members of the Alpine Club of Canada share their knowledge and talk about why they climb. (Part of this film will be screened)

Whether you would like to tune in for some inspiration, some local lore- or simply tune-out after your work day, this evening is for you.
– Popcorn and pop will be provided. It is encouraged to bring your own cup or bowl for popcorn
