Monthly Social & Presentation, “Canyoning – an Introduction and Adventures in Utah”

February 27th 2024

Description

Join us on Tuesday, February 27, for our monthly social! The theme is “Introduction to Canyoning and Adventures in Utah”.

As we continue the theme of canyoning (or canyoneering as more commonly referred to in the USA), this time, we start at the basics.

Our presenter, Daniel Friedmann, will give us an introduction to canyoning and take us through some of his experiences canyoning in the vibrant Utahan landscape. Come learn about this sport, what it entails, what equipment is needed, and places where canyons are found – all via photos from real canyons!

Update:
Tim Lee and FX Gagnon, with the Lions Bay Search & Rescue, will also join our event. They will demonstrate and examine beginner-level canyoning considerations such as trip preparation, essentials of training, human hazard management, and the equipment used. This presentation sets the stage for a future, more comprehensive event focused on rigging systems, swiftwater skills and canyoning safety that will be led by Tim and other certified canyoning guides.

Tim and FX serve as wildland rope rescue, swiftwater rescue and mountain rescue team members with Lions Bay Search & Rescue and they work collaboratively as certified canyoning guides for West Coast Canyoning and West Coast Educational Adventures. Tim and FX are happy to continue to be a resource for ACC members if they are considering venturing into the world of canyoning!

The social will be held in-person at the Floral Hall, VanDusen Botanical Garden (37th Avenue at Oak Street) in Vancouver.

The doors will open at 6:30pm for socializing and the program will begin at 7pm.
