Knots & Ropecraft Workshop

Join us for an interactive, online evening workshop where we will explore rope concepts and useful knots in camp craft and mountaineering.

All experience levels are welcome!

Whether you are learning knot tying for the first time or want to master advanced knot wizardry, there will be plenty for you to practice in this virtual group setting.

The goal of this workshop is to give members hands- on practice with tying several families of knots and to better understand each knot’s benefits and limitations.

Some general knowledge about rope terminology as well as mountaineering specific rope topics will be presented and followed by group exercises in tying variations of a core group of useful knots.

We will be conducting this workshop via Zoom.

This workshop is being offered in partnership with The Alpine Club of Canada Squamish Section.

Please only register for this event through one Section’s calendar. All participants will join the same Zoom meeting.

Knot Groups to be Practiced:

  • Overhand Knot & (Double) Fisherman’s Knot
  • Figure of Eight
  • Clove Hitch & Munter Hitch
  • Alpine Butterfly
  • Bowline
  • Friction Hitches (Prusik)

Required Items to Bring:

  • Computer or mobile device with Zoom
  • Any rope or cordage 1-2 metres in length for knot tying practice

Recommended Items to Bring:

  • Anchor Building Cordelette
  • Climbing Rope
  • Tubular Webbing
  • Carabiners or column/anchor point (ie: table leg, dumbbell handle, etc…)
