Christmas Brockton Lap (+ avi rescue practice)

December 25th 2025

Description

Are you looking for a fun thing to do to burn off some of the Christmas Eve dinner? Or maybe you want to prepare and make sure that you come hungry to the Christmas lunch you’re planning to join? Or you’re simply one of these people who happen to stay in Vancouver for the Holidays with no big plan?

In any case you’re welcome to join our morning Christmas lap to check out the snow conditions on Seymour and maybe do one rescue scenario if there is enough snow (or not too many people) to bury a beacon (or two).

The plan is to go up to Brockton Point, maybe push a bit further to find a good location for an avalanche rescue practice, and exit by skiing down on the runs.

All level welcome. This event is intended as a relaxed social ski morning.

Please come prepared and know your gear and how to use them. Bring appropriate layers (especially if we do avi rescue which can involve standing in the cold for a little while), snacks, water, and all the gear you’ll need for skiing (skins, poles, avi gears, etc).

~4-5 km / 250-270 m elev / Typ 1-1h30 round trip for Brockton Lap but as mentioned above I am thinking of doing an avi rescue practice so plan for more elev/km and 2h30-3h00 (depending on pace and conditions).
