EDIT: This has been updated to an overnight Sun-Mon camping
This is supposed to be an amazing area, I haven’t been here before. Currently no rain in the forecast, so would be nice to attempt this scramble and would enjoy a few more joining us.
Camping Sunday night to Monday in Brandywine Meadows.
Getting up the road all the way to close to the upper parking lot requires high clearance 4×4 or AWD. I will be taking up my Crosstrek and seeing how far I get, so total distance/elevation is not fully known. Please read AllTrails comments and seek out trip reports for making your judgment on the road conditions and your vehicle.
Cumulative elevation gain ~1000-1460 m, ~16 km distance, depending on how far up the road we get with the vehicles. Estimated hiking time 8-10 h. The route is expected to be challenging, and there is class 2-3 scrambling. I believe the route is snow free still, but will check again in case additional gear is needed.
I hike at a moderate pace, so won’t expect to be too fast or too slow.
Required items: helmet, 10 essentials, extra layers, overnight camping gear (will send suggested list if approved for the trip and if we go with overnight option)
Required experience: Participants should be comfortable with class 2-3 scrambling. Participants should have the required fitness level for the elevation gain and distance within the expected time- this is a big day.
If we are camping, this must not be your first backcountry backpacking trip with significant (>500 m) elevation gain with an overnight pack on. You must be self sufficient with your camping gear.
Itinerary: Drop overnight packs at Brandywine Meadows, do bear hang for food, summit Brandywine. Return to meadows and camp. Next day hike down and arrive back in Vancouver midday.
Meeting time: 6:30 am leave North Vancouver, aim to be on trail by ~8:00 am, so ~10 hours of daylight.
