Basic Mountaineering Course – STUDENT SIGN UP

May 11th 2024

Note: This course will take place over TWO weekends
  • May 11 & 12, 2024 Mount Seymour mountain skills
  • Second weekend TBD based on snow pack
Our basic mountaineering course is designed for new club members (novice climbers/mountaineers), to learn the skills necessary for safe travel in mountainous terrain. Mountaineering is a skill that takes years to become really experienced at, so our goal for this course is to simply make you confident enough with the basic skills. Following the course, you will have the experience to go on club trips and continue to learn.  After a few more trips, you will be able to come on club camps and hopefully lead some simpler climbs yourself.
  • Intro to Rock or equivalent experience  (course leader to determine)

  • Pre-Course Meeting TBD – must attend @ Vancouver (Fjallraven 147 West Broadway)
  • Weekend One – May 11 – 12 – Meeting point Seymour Parking Lot 8am
  • Weekend Two – Date and location TBD
  • 2nd weekend will require overnight camping
  • Wrap-up Meeting end of second weekend – TBD

Community Contribution

A dozen or more willing volunteers put in a thousand or more hours a year to make these courses happen, all of which include top-quality instruction at incredible value for money. We’ll literally share everything we know about staying safe in the mountains with you, because we want you to experience nature as we do.

That said, participation is a two way street, and if you’re going to take a course, we ask that you start thinking about ways to contribute back to the community also. Remember, we’re an entirely volunteer based community and this only works if everyone contributes!

Please consider becoming a trip-coordinator and hosting a trip (even just a simple hiking trip) when signing up for this course! You will be contacted by our Trip Director to prompt you to get a trip posted.
