Avalanche Awareness Seminar

December 4th 2023

Join us at Fjallraven Vancouver for a presentation and discussion about Avalanche Safety for winter travel in the mountains.  This is a valuable talk for ski touring/splitboarding and snowshoeing travel around the coast mountain range.  You can attend as a refresher on your knowledge to prepare you for the upcoming ski season, or it can be taken in partnership with your AST training.  This seminar intends to deliver essential information on identifying hazards in the mountains that can lead to being caught in avalanches, understanding the weather and terrain elements that create snow avalanches, and how to perform a rescue in the event of a person being caught in an avalanche.

This seminar does not replace AST-1 or AST-2 training.

The content in this seminar was developed by passed ACC Members Frank Baumann and Jay MacArthur.  It has been recently updated by Michael Kennedy, who will be presenting the workshop.  The content delivered, although precious information, does not follow the format that Avalanche Canada would like guides and instructors to teach; therefore, we always recommend attending AST-1 training and practicing regular companion rescue scenarios in the field.

Parking can be had on top of the old MEC building across the street from the Fjallraven West Broadway Store.
