Zupjok + Llama + Alpaca

March 3rd 2013

Description

The objective of this trip is to ski three peaks – Zupjok (1830m), Llama (1900m) and Alpaca (2040m) – in Coquihalla summit area.
Through the forest we will first climb up to Zupjok (distance 4km, elevation gain 610m), from here we will travel along a nice alpine ridge across a few gentle ups and downs via Llama to finally reach Alpaca. If we are lucky to have clear (maybe even sunny?) weather, this pleasant tour will offer great views of surrounding granite summits in all directions! We will more-or-less follow our uptracks to ski back down.

Estimated total distance: 18km.
Cumulative elevation gain: 1300m.

NOTE: depending on the pace of the group, weather, snow quality, avalanche conditions and other factors, we may turn back from the first or second peak.

BACK-UP PLAN: should conditions be really unfavourable, don’t you worry – we will still ski 🙂 – right across the valley is a shorter, easier and a very safe route up Iago Peak which is also a nice outing.

ITINERARY:
Leave Vancouver: 6:00am.
Leave trailhead: 9:00am.
Total ski time: 8-9 hours.
Back by cars: 5:30pm and leave by 6:00pm.
Back in Vancouver: 8:30 – 9:30pm (depending on whether we stop in Hope for dinner – group decision..)
