Description
To help raise money for the Canadian Avalanche Centre, on November 6th 2012, the UBC Varsity Outdoor Club will be presenting Matchstick Productions Superheroes of Stoke, a celebration of Matchstick’s past twenty years helping shape skiing into what it is today. Featuring some of the sport’s top athletes, the movie looks at the sport’s past, it’s evolution to it’s current state and the direction it’s heading.
Blower pow hides away from the crowds of resorts and is drawing more and more people every year into the back country exposing increasing numbers of skiers to avalanche terrain. The Canadian Avalanche Centre works tirelessly to produce daily avalanche bulletins for those people for whom the back country calls. The information provided by the CAC helps keep skiers and organizations like the ACC and VOC safer than ever before in the back country.
All proceeds from this event will be donated directly to the CAC to help support them in their work.
TICKETS: $10 in advance, $13 at the door. Tickets are currently available from the VOC’s club room or The Outpost, both in the Student Union Building at UBC (6138 Student Union Boulevard, Vancouver, BC) and Valhalla Pure Outfitters (88 West Broadway). See http://www.ubc-voc.com/superheroes-of-stoke for more details.
Time/Location: The movie will be showing at 8pm on November 6th, 2012 at The Norm Theater in the Student Union Building at UBC (6138 Student Union Boulevard, Vancouver, BC) and will be followed by more ski movies and bragging about killer lines at the nearby PIT Pub afterward (the completely optional pub portion of the evening is obviously 19+).
