Overland in Africa

September 27th 2011

Description

Two months, eight countries, 11,300 kilometers on rough roads, sleeping in tents. This was the perfect experience for people who love the outdoors. Join ACC Vancouver Section members Richard Keltie and Kayla Stevenson as they recount their travels in East and Southern Africa. From Nairobi to Cape Town over land in a big Mercedes Truck, they traveled through cities, villages, countryside and many national parks, experiencing local culture, traditions and wildlife all along the way.

Richard and Kayla travel extensively and have been to Africa twice, with a third trip to southern Africa planned for May/June 2012. Long time members of the Alpine Club, their wilderness experiences closer to home include climbing and backpacking in the Coast Mountains, Columbia Mountains, Canadian Rockies and on Vancouver Island. Recently retired, Kayla is following her passion for photography and Richard is back at university studying geology. It’s a perfect match – on their travels Richard studies the rocks and Kayla photographs them.
