Monthly Social / Speaker Night

Join us on June 27th at Mahoney and Sons (Stamps
Landing) for our “start of summer” social event. Catch up
with friends, meet new people, and make some big summer
plans!!

Local IFMGA mountain guide Julia Niles joins us to share some
of her tales of climbing and skiing from South Africa to our
backyard.

In light of Alex Honnold’s recent free solo ascent of El Capitan
in Yosemite, and her friend Ueli Steck’s recent death on
Nuptse in the Himalaya, Julia will present a show about how
risk in our mountain pursuits interacts with our passion – and
how “flow” state compels us to continue to pursue these
potentially dangerous goals. From adventures in the backyard
to far-away continents, Julia will talk about her own journey
with soloing and risk, how mountain pursuits have “saved her
life,” and the ways in which being a mother of two young
children complicates this balance.

Doors at 6:00pm. Presentation at 7:30pm!
