Great Scott and Holy Gmoser: The Jasper to Banff winter traverse

In late February 2010 childhood friends Margaret Gmoser and Chic Scott set off with two others to ski from Jasper to Banff along the chain of mountains that border the eastern side of the Banff to Jasper highway. Traversing more than twenty mountain passes, it had only been accomplished a couple of times before in the 1930s and 1970s and always by men. This trip was unusual because Margaret and Chic would celebrate their 65th birthday that year. Furthermore, it was Margaret’s first extended ski tour and she was attempting it without kneecaps which she had had removed in her 50s.
