Description
This event will be limited to members of the summer mentoring program not to exclude other people, but to ensure that we do sufficient training together as a cohort. Please keep an eye out for more inclusive days of climbing later in the summer and early fall.
This event is for people who are a part of the 2025 ACC Summer Mentoring Program. During this session, we can cover a range of skills depending on what people want, including the following:
- Placing rock pro, building gear anchors, etc.
- Haul systems (e.g., for crevasse rescue)
- Escaping the belay using the “MMO” (Munter-mule-overhand)
- Tandem rappels with an injured partner
- Ascending a fixed line
- Multi-pitch climbing
- Crack climbing technique
- Other topics that interest you (bring your questions and thoughts!)
What to bring:
- Food, water, and clothing
- Bug spray, sunscreen, etc.
- Your harness, helmet, rock shoes, crack gloves (if you have them), etc.
- Standard climbing gear (a double-length sling and locking carabiner, a belay device and locking carabiner, a personal prusik and locking carabiner, etc.)
- If you have them, a locking carabiner and 5-6 m of 6-mm cordalette (not sufficiently strong for building anchors, but useful for rock rescue), a Micro-traction or similar device, etc.
Note: I have a beater rope for haul systems and a new rope for climbing, and I currently only have a single rack with a few extra pieces. Please bring your rope and rack if you have them.
Let us meet at St. David’s at 6:30 AM and make our way to The Bluffs from there. As much as I hate early starts, it would be nice to have left Squamish by ~3:00 PM so as to beat the traffic. Alternatively, we could stick around until the evening for a longer day. Please let me know, once you have requested to sign up, whether you would prefer to leave in the mid-afternoon or wait out the traffic and leave The Bluffs later in the evening.
