Crevasse Rescue and Rope Management Practice

February 18th 2020

Description

Building on Tuesday’s (Feb. 11th’s) instruction in crevasse rescue techniques, we will use the fence as an anchor point and practise building 3:1 Z-pulley systems and 6:1 drop loop systems.

My aim is to go through these once with rescuers free from the system (for a trial run) before clipping in, making kiwi coils, and more realistically simulating a fall, with rescuers clipped into the system at all times.

If time permits, we will review EARNEST anchors, so please bring anchor material (4 locking carabiners and at least one double-length (120-cm) sling).

Please note that this is a practice session and not an instructional course. Participants should bring their own knowledge of these systems.
