Rockies Alpine Climbing Trip – Tonquin Valley Jasper

August 22nd 2015

Description

The plan is to have a week alpine climbing trip
in
the Canadian Rockies. The bulk of the trip will
be
spent climbing/hiking/scrambling and camping in
the
Tonquin Valley.

This is an unguided event for everyone with
intermediate to advanced skills. Everyone is
expected to be self sufficient and help in
organizing the trip.

Climbs in the area are classic with good
quartzite
rock for Rockies standard. Some of the objectives
are: Mt Oubliette (NE Ridge), MT
Bennington,Outpost
and other (see Selected Alpine Climb, 257-279).

The current plan is to camp at the surprise point
campground that has a closer access to the climbs

Ideas are also to spend Sat night at the Edith
Cavell Youth Hostel that is located at the
trailhead of the Astoria river. The NE ridge of
Edith Cavell can also be included in the climbs
of
the trip.

We will drive all day Sun (Aug 30). We may spend
1
night at the ice field campground along the way
to
break up the trip. If time and energy allows, Mt
Athabasca and/or Mt Andromeda can be included in
the wishlist.
